Nokia 5800 leakes again, UI is still unrefined

Posted by SG on Thursday, July 31, 2008

The Nokia 5800 has leaked again, but this time it’s showing it’s UI also. For those who forgot the 5800 is Nokia’s answer to the 3G iPhone. It’s a Touch Screen Based Smartphone running on S60 5th Edition having a 3.2 inch screen with a resolution of 640 x 360. It also has a 3.5 mm jack, Wi-Fi, GPS & a 3.2mp Auto Focus Cam with Carl Zeiss Optics.

The positioning of the phone as an iPhone beater can be seen from it’s branding as a Xpress Music Phone. It might also come with Nokia’s Comes with Music Service, which allows unlimited music downloads for 1 year. The Tube also has a newly developed battery called the BL-5J and it will also support the TV-out which the iPhone currently does not. If Nokia markets & positions this correctly, they might have a best seller in their hands but they need to refine the UI of the phone as it will get easily beaten by the iPhone’s UI.

RIM Blackberry Thunder Leaks Again, Haptics are visible

Posted by SG on Monday, July 14, 2008

The RIM Blackberry Thunder’s pics have leaked again. This shows a the lax security setup at RIM. Well we are not complaining as it enables us to see the Haptics enabled Touch Screen of the Thunder. There are speculations that the the Thunder will be renamed as Storm , looks like RIM seems to be sticking with natural forces on this one.

Talking about the Thunder, it features a large iPhonic Touch Screen complete with Sure Type & QWERTY keypads. The buttons formations give away the Haptics of the Tunder. It’s believed to be a slim device to take on the iPhone in not just features but size & dimensions also.

What’s so great about the True Haptics in the Thunder is the response got after pressing a button is from the area which was actually pressed unlike the Pseudo Haptics in today’s phones where the whole phone vibrates to acknowledge a press. The Thunder will also feature an audible clickety sound to enhance the vibrations.

The 3G less Bold called the ‘Javelin’ was also leaked & it’s confirmed to have GPS, Wi-fi, 3.2 mp cam & 4.6 OS. It will also feature the 480 x 320 screen of the Bold.

Wall Street Journal confirms Blackberry 9500 Thunder to launch in Q3 2008

Posted by SG on Sunday, May 18, 2008

The iPhone rival handset from Research in Motion (RIM), the BlackBerry 9500 Thunder is reportedly going to be launched in Q3 2008 according to the Wall Street Journal. Verizon will get the exclusive launch rights for the U.S., while the rest of the world will at least initially be able to grab the gorgeous device through one of many Vodafone’s subsidiaries.

Release date is set for Q3 2008, so I guess it will probably be somewhere around September. Roughly at that time, Sony Ericsson will release XPERIA, 3G iPhone may also be announced, and suddenly buying a mobile phone goes from complex to ultra-complex decision with the 3G iPhone & HTC Touch Diamond also vying for attention.

Samsung prepping iPhone competitor, has better specs

Posted by SG on Sunday, May 18, 2008

The iPhone’s design is easily recognizable around the world. There’s no denying Apple’s ability to churn out eye-pleasing creations that have tech-heads drooling for more clean lines and minimalist style. But Samsung is soon going to challenge iPhone with a Windows Mobile based Touch Screen phone.

The Samsung SGH-i900 has style and substance in it. There’s a full-body, 3.5-inch (240×400) touchscreen and Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, the Samsung i900 gives Windows Mobile fans a chance to one-up iPhone owners. And, with a feature-set that includes HSDPA, WiFi, FM radio, 5 megapixel camera, TV-out, 16GB of onboard storage, microSDHC card slot, and Bluetooth 2.2 with A2DP – all packed into a 112×56×13mm package, the Samsung i900 easily outpaces the current iPhone’s meager offerings. And, there’s some sort of fingerprint-scanner/touch-sensitive navigation pad at the bottom of the display.

Apple iPhone coming to India ?

Posted by SG on Sunday, May 18, 2008

Vodafone and Bharti Airtel are bringing the iPhone to India by November. Apple announced that it has signed a deal with Bharti to sell its iPhones from its retail outlets. Earlier it had signed a deal with Vodafone to sell iPhone in Ten Counteries including India & Australia.

But the agreement with Bharti is different than the agreement with Vodafone as Bharti has signed an ‘independent’ agreement that will allow it to sell iPhone handsets in India, the company said in a release. People will have to subscribe to a Vodafone connection if they want to use an iPhone in India.

Apple is abondaning it’s exclusive locked deals selling style like with O2 in UK, T-Mobile in Germany, Orange in France and AT&T in US, as it faces low sales. Now it’s started to sell iPhone unlocked and on rival networks in the same country as seen in Italy, Australia & now India.

The thing to watchout is weather Apple is brining it’s new 3G iPhone or the old iPhone to India as by November the 3G iPhone will be out.

RIM’s iPhone rival BlackBerry 9500 ‘Thunder’ to debut soon ?

Posted by SG on Sunday, May 18, 2008

The Thunder is BlackBerry’s first ever Touch Screen Device and it will be a piece of mobile perfection for which your precious fingers will be happy they waited. Matching the quality of the robust, yet refined handset will be the power of the leading wireless carriers in America and Europe. The BlackBerry Thunder will be available exclusively on Verizon Wireless in the United States and Vodafone in Europe, providing the perfect storm of Mobile offerings.

The specs floating for “Thunder” hint at an EVDO Rev. C radio mated to a GSM/HSPA radio allowing a truly any network any country cell phone. Also the presence of LTE 4G can’t be ruled out as it’s going to be rolled out by Verizon in the near future. The standard features like GPS & Wi-fi along with 3.5mm jack should also be present. I hope RIM puts a better camera than the abysmal 2mp camera in Blackberries till now.

iPhone no longer available in the UK; 3G version coming soon?

Posted by SG on Friday, May 9, 2008

Engadget is reporting that the iPhone is not available in the UK. The 2G Version was being pushed with a discount by O2 in the UK. They were also not replenishing the stock. Now they’ve run out of it.

iPhone, at least in its 2G version, is official dead in the UK. And even though we knew this is coming, O2 UK obviously wanted to make things clear, hence their iPhone page has a simple “iPhone no longer available” sentence. This in return prompts a question when will the 3G iPhone be released, and who will get the honor to carry it. Hopefully, we’ll know sooner rather than later. June seems like a month to look forward to…
